Ycona Luxury Resort Zanzibar
Zanzibar
Tanzania
Overview
Ycona Luxury Resort is one of Zanzibar’s most distinctive emerging luxury properties, pairing Italian-influenced contemporary design with African character, extensive tropical landscaping and a strong sustainability philosophy. The family-owned five-star resort occupies more than 60,000 square metres of tropical forest and gardens alongside approximately 500 metres of private white-sand beach.
Accommodation is entirely villa-focused. The resort has 40 private villas divided between beachfront, family and jungle categories. Beach villas include private swimming pools, gardens and panoramic rooftops with splash tubs, while larger two- and three-bedroom family villas provide expansive pools, kitchens and generous living spaces. Jungle villas sit deeper within the vegetation, offering outdoor showers and baths and, in selected categories, rooftop terraces and splash tubs.
Sustainability is embedded into the concept rather than simply added as a supporting initiative. Solar power and solar thermal systems are integrated into accommodation, while the architecture is designed to sit sensitively within the surrounding landscape.
Ycona also places considerable emphasis on food. Four restaurants, multiple bars and an underground wine cellar form part of the experience, with much of the produce following a farm-to-table philosophy. Dining concepts include fine dining, Italian wood-fired pizza, private chef experiences and highly personalised meals served within villas or specially created locations around the resort.
Wellness facilities include a spa, yoga areas, gym and gardens designed to encourage guests to reconnect with nature. Taken together, Ycona feels less like a conventional beach hotel and more like a self-contained luxury estate. Its combination of private villas, architectural individuality, sustainability, wellness and ambitious gastronomy makes it one of the most compelling newer additions to Zanzibar’s high-end hospitality scene.
