Zuri Zanzibar

Zanzibar

Tanzania

Overview

Zuri Zanzibar is a stylish, contemporary resort set on the north-west coast near Kendwa, an area renowned for powder-white sand, clear water and memorable Indian Ocean sunsets. What immediately separates Zuri from many of the island’s east-coast resorts is its beach setting, which offers particularly appealing conditions for swimming and relaxing by the sea.

The resort has 56 bungalows, suites and villas dispersed throughout extensive tropical gardens. Entry-level bungalows are already spacious, combining modern interiors with African artwork, private terraces and indoor-outdoor bathrooms. Suites introduce larger terraces, separate living spaces and private Jacuzzis, while oceanfront villas offer significantly greater privacy. At the top end, the three-bedroom luxury villa has its own infinity pool, private beach area, entertainment room and sweeping sunset views.

Zuri is particularly strong in design. Contemporary architecture and interiors sit naturally amongst the gardens, while local craftsmanship prevents the property from feeling overly polished or disconnected from Zanzibar.

Dining spans three restaurants and four bars. Upendo delivers international cuisine with an African and Indian Ocean influence, Maisha combines Southern European and island flavours, while Bahari brings informal beachside dining to the sand. The resort’s Dining by Design concept allows private meals, beach breakfasts, bonfire dinners and cooking experiences to be tailored around guests.

Wellness includes yoga, meditation, Maua Wellness, indoor and outdoor fitness areas and access to water sports. A spice garden brings another distinctly Zanzibari element to the property.

Zuri succeeds because it combines serious luxury with an easy-going atmosphere. It is sophisticated without feeling formal, design-led without sacrificing warmth, and equally capable of appealing to couples, honeymooners and families.
