Set on the tip of the Michamvi Peninsula on Zanzibar’s east coast, Qambani offers a very different interpretation of resort luxury. Rather than functioning like a conventional hotel, it feels more like an extraordinarily generous private coastal residence, with a small collection of individually styled villas scattered through tropical gardens above the Indian Ocean.
The property’s architecture combines traditional Swahili craftsmanship with modern coastal design, drawing inspiration from the palaces and houses found historically along the East African coast. Its individually designed thatched villas each have their own personality. Accommodation may include outdoor showers or baths, loft spaces, additional rooms suitable for families and private terraces, while the romantic Sundowner villa occupies a particularly secluded position close to the ocean.
Space is one of Qambani’s greatest luxuries. Extensive communal areas include an enormous living room facing the sea, an open timber dining room, entertainment areas, gym and spa. Dhow sailing, sandbank picnics, spice tours, Stone Town excursions and visits to Jozani Forest can all be arranged, but Qambani is equally suited to doing very little.
